WWU to Hold USEF Judges’ Clinic with Rob and Sarah Byers

FULTON, MOWilliam Woods University will host a United States Equestrian Federation Combined Judges’ Clinic March 30-31. Two panelists, Rob and Sarah Byers, will stay an extra day to hold a clinic Sunday, April 1, for WWU students and horses.

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) is the national governing body of equestrian sports in the United States, and serves to manage and protect horses in competition. The Combined Judge’s Clinic will be used to certify and recertify Saddle Seat Equitation, Hackney/Harness, Saddlebred and Roadster judges.

Equitation panelists include Gayle Lampe, WWU professor of equestrian science, and Sarah Byers, a William Woods graduate from Simpsonville, Ky.

The other panelists are Hackney/Harness panelist Jimmy Miller of Ashland, Mo.; Saddlebred panelist Rob Byers of Simpsonville, Ky., and Roadster panelist Michael Felty of Shelbyville, Ky.

WWU students will ride horses in a mock horse show for the potential judges to practice, and the show will be taped for future use by USEF.

On Friday the instruction for those attempting a judge’s card will take place in the equestrian classrooms.

Saturday the performance portion of the mock horse show will occur in the UPHA Arena around 8 a.m. A lunch break will be held around noon, followed by Saddle Seat Equitation at 1 p.m.

On Sunday Rob and Sarah Byers will host a clinic for WWU students, where they will instruct students on university-owned horses.

There will be a lunch break around noon, when students and visitors will enjoy lunch with the Byers.

Rob and Sarah Byers are respected trainers in the Saddlebred industry. Their Premier Stables in Simpsonville, Ky., turns out some of the most winning of Saddlebred champions—horses such as the 2004 Five Gaited World’s Grand Champion, CH Boucheron.

An audit fee of $15 will apply to the Sunday riding clinic, and will include a pizza lunch. For more information, contact Gayle Lampe at (573) 592-4395.
