VCMHC Spring Fling

The Virginia-Carolinas Morgan Horse Club sponsored its "Spring Fling" Driving and Training Clinic at the Daughtry Stables of Goldsboro, N.C., on April 18. The weather could not have been better and the event was very well attended with some coming from Virginia. Harry Daughtry demonstrated techniques developed over his 60-plus years of training Saddlebreds, Hackneys and Morgans and answered many questions.

First he showed how to hook a green horse using a sled, line-driving and the use of the bitting rig and dumb jockey. After a break for questions and answers, the finished show horses were presented: Cathy Minard and her Hollybrook Independence, classic pleasure driving; June Davis and Hollybrook Walk In Tall, classic pleasure saddle; and Mary Daughtry and Graywood's Lennox, open pleasure driving. As a finale, Daughtry warmed up Vivacious EF and then asked Andree Vetrano to take the lines for her very first drive with a road pony. She was thrilled.

In addition to the clinic, there was a silent auction, fun activities for the kids, a Southern States show committee meeting and a general membership meeting after a wonderful family-style barbecue meal at world famous Wilbur's Barbecue.
