UPHA Chapter 8 Announces New Horse Show

UPHA Chapter 8 (Alabama and Tennessee) will sponsor their first-ever horse show April 5-7 at the TriState Exhibition Center in Cleveland, Tenn.

“We are answering the need for a show where entry to mid-level horses and novice riders can compete in a fun environment,” says Chapter 8 Chairman James Hale. One change to the original class list is the inclusion of alpha show division classes for riders coming out of the academy division.

“We simply changed all the novice rider/driver classes to alpha/novice classes,” stated Hale. The show will offer alpha/novice classes in country pleasure, show pleasure, three-gaited, five-gaited and horse and pony driving classes. AOTs will also find classes in the country and show pleasure divisions. For those who love a gaited horse, but could do without the trot and canter, there is an ASB Gaited class – slow gait and rack only – how fun is that! It’s also perfect place to make your season debut with a young or novice horse, with Denver/novice classes in park pleasure, three-gaited and five-gaited.

They’ve also eliminated the one thing people complain about most – the judge! To add to the relaxed atmosphere and create more “audience participation,” a judge for each class will be selected from the trainers and experienced amateurs who are present.

“Mike Barlow suggested this – he’s done it before with the road horse and pony show-so watch for a tap on the shoulder from him,” said Hale.

The star-studded center ring cast includes Bill Whitley as ringmaster, Mark Farrar as announcer, Stacy Beam as organist, Sandra Hall as photographer and Richfield Video has just come onboard as videographer. With you as the judge – how can they go wrong!

Prize lists are available and pre-entries close March 20. For more information please call James and Jackie Hale at (205) 669-6649, or Mike and Kathy Barlow at (615) 274-3718.
