Another Tragic Barn Fire

A large barn at Romy and Stuart Ackerberg’s Indigo Acres in Montrose, Minn. was completely destroyed by fire on Monday afternoon, July 30, 2007. Seven horses are missing and possibly died in the fire. The Saddlebred stallion, Trust Fund, is safe.
A new load of hay had been received earlier in the day and is thought to be the source of the fire. Veterinarians and other farm staff were on hand when the fire started and were able to save most of the 40+ horses in the barn. Neighbors quickly rallied and offered to care for surviving horses.
Romy Ackerberg, who is seven to eight months pregnant, was briefly hospitalized for observation after assisting in the rescue efforts. She returned home last night.
