Time To Shine On Florida Sunshine Circuit

The sun will not be the only thing shining in Tampa, Fla., this spring as the Tampa Charity Horse Show will celebrate its diamond (75th) anniversary in 2008. In 1933 the Tampa Charity Horse Show was born on the thriving Florida Sunshine Circuit. Over the years it has seen changes including, in 1993, moving from the famed venue at the Tampa Yacht Club to the Florida State Fairgrounds which boosts a covered arena, covered warm up, outdoor working rings and permanent stalls for over 600 horses.

This year the Sunshine Circuit, which has been comprised of the Gasparilla Charity and Tampa Charity Horse Shows, will undergo another makeover as the two shows have decided to share the week of fun in the sun by alternating years. In the upcoming 2008, Tampa Charity will be kicking off the show season during the week of March 4-8. Managed by Peter Fenton, this year the show will bring back the USEF rating for all divisions and will feature classes for Saddlebreds, roadsters, Hackneys and Friesians. It will also have an expanded Morgan division.

One thing that has not changed is the schedule. The show will continue to have the evening only schedule during the week allowing everyone to have the days to enjoy Florida’s west coast. Not only does the Tampa area have great weather but there are also so many things to do. There are beautiful beaches, great fishing and magnificent golf courses all close by. There is excellent shopping at International Plaza and extreme fun to be had at Busch Gardens, Ybor City, Lowry Park Zoo, the Florida Aquarium and Dinosaur World. You might even choose to take in a baseball game during spring training or a concert at the famous Strawberry Festival. If you feel like a day trip, you can always venture about 45 minutes east to Disney, Epcot or Sea World.

If you are looking for a bright start to your show season, the Tampa Charity is the answer…great schedule, state of the art facility, world-class competition with many entertainment and vacation activities all underneath the fabulous Florida sun! Make your plans for a spring break now! For more information, please visit www.tampahorseshows.org
