Southern Saddlebred Spring Fling Hosting Special Events

Southern Saddlebred Spring Fling: More Hospitality Than Ever Before

The Southern Saddlebred Spring Fling Horse Show will be held April 24-26, 2014 at the Tennessee Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro, Tenn.  This is the second annual Spring Fling show, and the 4th show produced by Southern Saddlebred Sales, Inc., with expert management provided by Scarlett Mattson and Scott and Beth Snider.   Nancy Troutman of Salem, Va., will judge a full line-up of American Saddlebred, Hackney, and Roadster classes.  Amy Dix Rock of Franklin, Tenn., will officiate the Academy division.

The American Road Horse and Pony Association (AHRPA) will host a special event, “Meet The Roadsters” on Thursday night following the show.  Member Stables will host a Progressive Barn Party throughout the stable and offer people an opportunity to learn more about the Road Horse.  “We believe this show is an excellent venue to exhibit a Standardbred and we hope to showcase them to both the show horse and local communities,” said Rick Adams, Secretary/Treasurer of ARHPA.   Anyone interested in participating in the Progressive Party should contact Adams at (678) 296-7442.

Other new hospitality this year includes a Tex-Mex Welcome Lunch for Trainers and Grooms on Wednesday at Noon, sponsored by John Bennett, DVM – Equine Services LLC.  Welcome Bags will also be distributed to each stable upon arrival on Tuesday.  And once again there will be an Exhibitor Party on Friday night, featuring Nashville Talent, Luk Nichols.  The Miller Club restaurant and bar will be catered all weekend by Murfreesboro’s finest, Five Senses Restaurant.

In addition to a full Academy Division, we have also added a couple of classes to the show schedule:  ASB Ladies Three Gaited Championship and a Three Gaited Pleasure pony class and championship. Click Here to download a revised class schedule.

Saturday evening’s performance will be dedicated to Chris Smith, Advertising Representative for Show Horse Magazine, who passed away suddenly on March 1st.  Chris was a great friend and a huge fan of this “hometown” horse show.  Special trophies donated by Victoria Gillenwater and R.T. Hudgins will be presented in the Five Gaited Stake and Chris’ family will be in attendance.

If you haven’t made plans to attend the show, there is still time.  With 500 permanent stalls and a $22 million dollar climate-controlled facility, it’s one you don’t want to miss!  For more information please contact Scarlett Mattson at 270-547-2407 or [email protected]
