Sidesaddle and Carriage Driving at KHP

The Kentucky Horse Park is hosting a couple of special weekends in September.

Sidesaddle Weekend

The Kentucky Horse Park is hosting Sidesaddle Weekend, Sep 8-9, in the Parade of Breeds, that will feature special guests from the Ladies Aside organization who prove their adage, "If you can do it astride, you can do it aside." This is a diverse group of six women who ride their horses sidesaddle in English, Western, endurance, historic costuming and more. Sidesaddle riders will include a forest ranger who uses her racking horse in historical reenactments, a professional sidesaddle rider who uses her spotted draft horse, a riding instructor who jumps sidesaddle, a Drum Horse breeder who uses her stallion in sidesaddle demonstrations, and a rider who rescued an Arabian National Champion from severe neglect and now rides her sidesaddle. For more information, e-mail Shirley Gentry, shedrowsh@aol.com or call 859-383-4303.

Carriage and Sleigh Weekend

The Carriage and Sleigh Association of Northwest Indiana has something for everyone. Whether you would like to take a Sunday afternoon jaunt with the family or compete in international driving competitions, driving is the name of the game. Visit the park during Carriage and Sleigh Weekend, Sep 14-16 and see a number of horse-drawn vehicles and a variety of horse breeds as they demonstrate the fine art of driving during the Parade of Breeds. Included with KHP admission. For more information, contact Marcia Boezeman at marcia@boezemansigns.com.
