Reading Between the Lines - How They Did It!

by Christy Howard Parsons

For the fourth year, the High Point REPORT is recognizing the champion horses out there competing, one show after another. There is nothing more exciting than a great show horse – and we are recognizing some of the best. Some of them are world’s champions, horses of the year, regional
high point winners. Some are not. But they are all show horses and they give us their all because they love it. We want to recognize these horses for their efforts. We want to honor their contributions to our breed. Most importantly, we want to see them show some more!

Let’s take a look at who topped the High Point REPORT in 2006. How did they get their points? It’s not always blue ribbons that propel these champions to the top, but the most consistent performers who always win in the end. Let’s review how they did it.

Open Five-Gaited
As the king of the show ring, the open five-gaited contenders are the highlight of many a stake night! Our High Point REPORT Champion, Katie’s Rob Roy, lit up the ring 20 times in 2006, that’s right 20 times! By winning eight single point shows, plus earning four seconds and four third place ties, owner and trainer
Shirley Trail earned 196 points, more than 50 points than the nearest competitor. They earned these points at 12 horse shows, 10 of which were single point shows. Congratulations and thanks to our champions.

Neva Van Ess and The Man Of The Hour also hit the road, rewarding their fans 11 times in 2006 to earn 139 points and the second place finish. Heartland Tradition LLC is the proud owner of The Man Of The Hour, who claimed six victories in 2006 including shows at Madison, Mid-America Spring, WREA Spring and Des Moines Springfest. This talented team also earned four second place finishes and was eighth at Lexington Junior League.

The popular team of Melissa Moore and Intoxicating Conversation earned the third place finish with 134 points for Adler Farms. Wins at Midwest and Lexington earned double points, and a third and fifth place finish at Louisville earned another 42 points.

The 2006 World’s Grand Champion He’s The Man picked up 60 points from two wins at Louisville, as this the talented entry owned by Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Shires and Allison Combs enjoyed an undefeated season in 2006 earned another 60 points from wins at Bonnie Blue and two at ASHAV. Smith Lilly rode this talented entry to his fourth place finish in the point standings in only five performances.

I’m First and Nelson Green finished in the standings at fifth, earning 118 points, only two points behind the world’s grand champion, in seven performances at five horse shows. They were never below third this year, earning wins at Rock Creek and Asheville, and finishing in reserve at Shelbyville, ASHAV and at the World’s Championship Show in the stallion stake. Stonecroft Farm proudly owns this talented young competitor.

Interestingly enough, all 10 of our top ten champions are new to the High Point REPORT, not appearing in the top ten in 2005. The remainder of our top ten champions for 2006 are Beringer Red, Twice Charmed, High On Champagne, Saint Bart and Undulata’s Georgie Girl.
