Parkinsons Celebrate 50th Anniversary

Posted January 4, 2002 Rex and Shirley Parkinson recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 8, 2001.
Rex and Shirley have been longtime trainers in the American Saddlebred and Hackney pony industries. In fact, the couple met showing horses at a Morton, Illinois horse show.
They were married on December 8, 1951 at the First Presbyterian Church in Assumption, Illinois, where Shirley had been born and raised.
The family celebrated their anniversary with a big open house with friends and family from across the country in attendance.
Rex and Shirley Parkinson have one daughter, Vicki Parkinson Whitmer, and two great grandchildren, Jonathon and Katie Whitmer. Katie has already declared herself horse crazy at age 3 and enjoys working road ponies with her great grandfather. Shirley proudly reports that she expects Katie to be a fourth generation Parkinson who is involved in the horse business.
