Obituary - R.C. Mattson



Roan Clark "R.C." Mattson, age 21, of Okeechobee, Fla., died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008. Born Sept. 30, 1986, in Pahokee, he had been a lifetime resident of Okeechobee. R.C. had a true love of agriculture, the outdoors and more importantly, helping other people. His grandmother, Scarlet Mattson is the show manager of many horse shows across the country, including the World’s Championship Horse Show.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Eddie Mattson.

He is survived by his father; Roan (Shannon) Mattson, II of Okeechobee; mother, Carla (Danny) SantAngelo; brothers, Newt Mattson, Chris SantAngelo; sisters, Trista Mattson, Jenny SantAngelo, Reed and Zachary May, all of Okeechobee; a nephew; Wiley Vaughn of Okeechobee; paternal grandmother, Scarlet Mattson of Irvington, Ky.; great uncle, Gene Clark Mattson, Ginger (Sherry) Wilson of Irvington, Ky.; great-great Aunt Bert Pilgrim of Okeechobee; uncle, Mark (Cris) Mattson of Okeechobee; aunt, Charlotte (Brad) Kurtz of Louisville, Ky.; maternal grandfather, Bill (Deloris) Sherman of Okeechobee; grandmother, Lee Anita (Jay) Huffman of Okeechobee; grandmother, Kay (Robert) Cowart of Otto, N.C.; great-grandmother, Tina Johnston of Okeechobee; uncles and aunts, Lisa (Bert) Harris of Lake Placid, Chris Sherman of Okeechobee, Christ Stanford of Ft. Myers, Gail (Paul) Chaulk of Ocala, Paige Sherman of Okeechobee, Joanna (Naudy) Exposito of Okeechobee, Ron (Deedee) SantAngelo of Vero Beach, Joe (Wendy) SantAngelo of West Palm Beach, Jason (Cheryl Ann) SantAngelo of Otto, N.C.

In hope of honoring Mattson’s memory, a fund has been set up through the FFA Department at the high school in Okeechobee, Fla. This fund will benefit the members of the Okeechobee FFA Chapter so that some good can come from this sad event. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that expressions of sympathy be sent to the RC Mattson Memorial FFA Fund, c/o Okeechobee FFA, Vickie Stuart, bookkeeper, 2800 Highway 441 North, Okeechobee, FL 34972.
