In Memory - Farris L. Craig

Farris L. Craig passed away February 11, 2006 in Salem, Mo., of cancer at 80 years of age. After serving in the Navy in World War II, Craig began Craig Distributing in Salem. In later years, he sold the company to Kraft.

A lifelong breeder, exhibitor and enthusiast of the Hackney, Craig and his late wife Alice maintained a stable, which was very prominent in the 1950's and 60's. After that they decided to show their ponies with other trainers. For many years they were with the Jimmy Miller Stables and then with Reedannland.

Among the ponies the Craigs owned were King's Rocket, First Choice, Brass Lass, Thyen's Asset, Grand Impression, Cajun Cat and Fitz's Wild Orchid.

Craig's parents were killed during the early part of his and Alice's marriage leaving two young sons, whom Craig and his wife raised. Craig is preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Alice, and his parents, Vorris and Ludie Craig. He is survived by two daughters, Linda Roaseau, Key West, Fla. and Brenda Craig, Overland Park, Kan.; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and two brothers, Jerry Craig and Gary Craig, both of Salem, Mo.
