J. D. Massey Horse Show Announces Plans for 2008

Plans are underway for the JD Massey Classic Horse Show. The dates for 2008 are April 16-19. The show will be held at T. Ed Garrison Arena in Clemson, SC. Judging the 75th Anniversary event will be Rob Byers, Simpsonville, Ky. UPHA Classics will be offered in several divisions. A Pink Ribbon class and AOT classes are on the schedule, as well as a full offering of Academy classes.

To celebrate the milestone 75th Anniversary of the show, the Board of Directors is planning many special activities. Tuesday night will be the pre-show kick-off with a wine and cheese reception to celebrate the opening of the JD Massey/Greenville Horse Show History Museum (see separate story).  Wednesday evening will be the second annual Hunt Foundation Exhibitors’ Breakfast.  After Thursday evening’s performance, there will be a Southern Traditions dinner, and on Friday, the Board will host the exhibitors’ party with food and live music.  Continuing with a new tradition from last year, on Saturday there will be picnic lunch available for the Academy riders and their instructors.  Early Risers Breakfast will be hosted by the Clemson-Calhoun Rotary Club and the JD Massey Board each morning Monday thru Saturday.

Other activities during the show will include a daily Trivia Contest at the Museum, an Art Contest and an Essay Contest for Jr. Exhibitors, as well as contests for THE OLDEST GREENVILLE HORSE SHOW PROGRAM, the barn with the most horses entered, the trainer/exhibitor who travels the longest distance to attend, and the individual who has attended the show for the longest time.  Great prizes are being collected for the contest winners!  There is also rumor of an on-site masseuse for those who work or play just a little too hard!
