Indy Charity Horse Show News

The 2008 Indianapolis Charity Horse Show has new dates of June 4-7 since the usual dates were pre-empted by the Indiana State Fair. There were so few dates open at the Indiana State Fair facility and, after much careful deliberation among the officers, committee members and UPHA Chapter 11 members, the show regretfully was forced to select the same dates as the Rock Creek Horse Show.

As a result of this change of dates and being on the same weekend as Rock Creek, Indy Charity will no longer be sanctioned by USEF. The show was advised by USEF that it could remain a member show if it changed its rating of American Saddlebred horses and Hackney Ponies to a “C” rated division. The show decided the officers and committee members had worked very diligently to build this show and it would be detrimental to it to lower its classification. However, the show will be following rules and regulations of USEF as closely as possible, but not being a member show will allow it to expand in some areas.

The show will start with an evening session on Wednesday, June 4. With this change of dates, the Pepsi Coliseum will be available for trainers to use Tuesday afternoon and evening, June 3. The show has been assured the dirt and clay used to prepare the footing in the Pepsi Coliseum has been stored over the winter in such a manner that the show will have its usual excellent footing in the show ring.

The show is starting to work on the premium book, checking if there should be some classes dropped and adding others. They will be adding more junior exhibitor classes and perhaps more roadster pony classes. There has been interest in adding a Roadster Pony to Wagon and Roadster Pony Under Saddle as well as a Roadster Horse Under Saddle class.

Any suggestions by trainers and exhibitors are welcomed and the show asks that you advise them as soon as possible so they can take the suggestions into consideration when working on the premium book and schedule.
