KATY, Texas – Honoring the past, looking to the future. That might have been the theme of Saturday night’s awards banquet during the annual T.A.S.H.A. Winter Horse Show. Sherry Frankel, Nona Kelly and May Chadick of S.G.F. Winning Ways Farm earned kudos for their work in chairing the banquet, awards program and Casino Night that followed.
Honoring key volunteers and supporters Ed and Ada Perwien of Bluebonnet Farm highlighted the evening’s ceremonies. Jim Aikman, founder of the All American Cup, made the trip from Indiana to emcee the presentation. The Perwiens’ daughter, Elly Berman, helped her mother gather groups of old pictures, including one of Ed Perwien riding when the family still lived in Minnesota. Bluebonnet client Michael Fox put it all together in a video which stirred fond memories for many outside the Bluebonnet family.
The club, incorporated in 1973, honored the late George Roberts, the late Charley Isom and Margie Newton, who signed its charter.
Milligan Stables won the Texas High Point Stable award for the 11th consecutive year, with Bluebonnet Farm close behind. Janie Hamilton and Nancy Lassiter presented high point awards for the State of Texas, T.A.S.H.A., N.T.A.H.S.A., Texas Pleasure Horse and U.S.E.F. Regional winners.
The club honored Ed and Ada Perwien
for their long-time volunteer and financial
support with induction into the inaugural
T.A.S.H.A. Hall of Fame.
May Chadick, Jim Aikman, Joan Hubbard and
Janie Hamilton relaxed after a successful evening.
Joan Hubbard joined Jack Magill Stables’s group
during the banquet. Joan Cantrell, Kerry Ann Bunde
and Becky Taggart helped pick up numerous awards
for the Dallas-based barn.
Michael Fox, Megan McLellan and Randy McBride each
won several high point awards for Bluebonnet Farms.
McLellan’s honors included T.A.S.H.A.’s Academy Overall
High Point Championship.
The ladies of Paul Cates Stables: Cathy Coleman,
Erin DeWitt, T.A.S.H.A. Scholarship winner Kristen Dunn,
Bo Cates and Alli Denman.
Koren Mercer held the trophy awarded T.A.S.H.A.’s
Overall Academy Champion Horse, Billy Kidd, who died
last spring. Joan Cantrell of Jack Magill Stables and
Lone Star’s Faye Stephens joined her for the photo.
Nancy Moreno and Chris Tresten picked up several
awards as well as blue ribbons at the horse show.
They ride with Dan Flowers of Miracle Farm.
