Germantown Set to Celebrate 60th Anniversary
Wednesday, April 30, 2008
The Germantown Charity Horse show will be celebrating its 60th anniversary this year June 10-14. Euchee Matthews from Alachua, Fla., will be judging the Saddlebred, Roadster, Hackney and Academy classes.
Several new events have been planned to make this diamond jubilee special for our exhibitors, supporters and spectators alike. Some of these include a new mascot, Charity, who will be greeting crowds on the show grounds all week long. There will be a Hall of Fame concentrating on some of the people who have made the horse show what it is today. The commemorative brick pavilion will be redone and bricks as well as stalls are available for purchase to honor or remember someone. One of the more visible projects this year will be a community arts project in honor of the 60th anniversary. "The Horses Are Coming, The Horses Are Coming" is a project similar to the one in Louisville, Ky., where artists for different sponsors paint horses, and they are then placed for display until an auction later on in the fall. There will also be a very special Homecoming Party on Saturday night for past presidents, queens and other volunteers, and of course there is a Sponsorship Party on Wednesday night for all our wonderful sponsors. And do not forget our Exhibitor Party on Monday night!
The Peruvian horses exhibition class returns on Tuesday and Wednesday nights and the dressage exhibition will entertain us on Friday night.
President Lynda Smith is excited about her first year in the office and wants to welcome everyone. "We are indeed excited over our upcoming 60th anniversary show. Our various committees have been hard at work since last September planning a special week for our exhibitors and spectators alike. We continue to make enhancements to our show grounds in preparation for our exhibitors. We are waiting for you so make plans to come on over in June!"
