George M. Mugnier Sr. - 1933 - 2006



GRANBY - George M. Mugnier, Sr., 72, of Taylor St., died Friday, July 21, 2006 in the Holyoke Medical Center. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, son of the late Austin and Pauline (Taylor) Mugnier. 

George was educated in the Granby Schools and graduated from South Hadley High School and Holyoke Community College. He received a Certificate in Telephony from the University of Kansas. He served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1954. George was president of the Granby Telephone Co. He was an active member of Town Committees for Granby, a member of the Granby Lions Club, a member of the Telephone Pioneers, Telephone Association of New England, President of the Independent Telephone Association.

George was a World Champion equestrian, with his horse "The Answer Call", also a member of the American Morgan Horse Association, United States Trotting Horse Association. George was a scuba and recovery diver and a competitive marksman and loved the outdoors.

 

He was predeceased by his brother Alston D. Mugnier. George is survived by his wife Cindy (Poitras) Mugnier, his children, George "Michael" Mugnier, Jr. and his wife Karen of Wiswal, Montana, Donna Mugnier, Charlotte Mugnier and Dayle Clark and her husband Billy, all of Granby, his brother Paul W. Mugnier of Houston, Texas, his sister Mary Jo Mugnier of Granby, his sister-in-law, Helen Mugnier Patterson of Plymouth, MA, also his grandchildren, Joshua and Andrea Clark, Elizabeth and Christopher Texeiar, and Ashley, George and Connor Mugnier.

 

The funeral for George will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Church of Christ Congregational followed with a burial in West Cemetery, both in Granby. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the Ryder Funeral Home in South Hadley. Ryder Funeral Home 533-1735
