Former World’s Champion of Champions Three-Gaited Pony The Mustang Sally died this past week at the age of 29. Bred by Thomas Barnhiser, the daughter of Our Magic Memory and Stonewall’s Teen Angel was originally registered as My Genius’ Magic Angel. As a baby she was Weanling Filly Champion at the Ohio State Fair and the Weanling Reserve Grand Champion in the ASH Futurity of Indiana.
The Mustang Sally debuted in 1993 in the three-gaited pony division with Matthew Williams and in ’94 had an incredible season, which included World’s Champion of Champions Three-Gaited Pony honors, the world’s champion 13 & under qualifier, the Three-Gaited Pony Championships at Lexington Junior League and Rock Creek as well as UPHA Three-Gaited Pony Of The year honors. This was all under the direction of Rob and Sarah Byers at their Premier Stables.
Several other young riders got to learn from the grand mare when Williams’ tenure was over. Calhoun Clifton, Hayne Clifton, Cydni Simmons, Nelson Gaker, Caroline Gaker, Allie Pinkerton, and Ali Wellington all had their time in the spotlight with The Mustang Sally. Jeff, Cathie, and Cydni Simmons were the last owners.
