Equine Death-Shamrock’s Phi Guy

Shamrock’s Phi Guy, loved by Sherry Frankel, her daughters, Lauren and Lindsey Greenwald, and dozens of youngsters riding with SGF Winning Ways Farm, died during surgery on April 1. It was a final attempt to rehabilitate the gelding who suffered a career-ending injury in January.

By Shamrock Santana and out of the Phi Slama Jama daughter, Kendra, Guy was the epitome of the "first time show horse." Frankel purchased him in 2003, and Lauren Greenwald provided the polish that made him an exceptional pleasure equitation and academy mount. He and Greenwald starred in the equitation ranks. Many a young lady and adult won their first blue ribbon aboard Guy.

He was the State of Texas High Point Academy Horse for four consecutive years. In his only trip to the National Academy Finals, he carried two different riders to a National Championship and Reserve National Championship.

"We all will continue to miss this great champion," Frankel said.
