Don Burnette Passes

Don Burnette, age 69, of Corbin, Ky. passed away unexpectedly on July 17, 2007 at the Baptist Regional Medical Center. Don is survived by his wife Mary Burnette, two daughters Monica Sexton and husband John of LaGrange and Angela Shelton and husband Bruce of Corbin. He had four grandchildren Lauren Sexton, Ryan Sexton, Clay Shelton, and Cole Shelton.

Don made his living in the car business with a car lot that he owned for over 20 years in Williamsburg, Ky. Most of all, however, he loved the horses. He and his family have been showing Saddlebreds and Hackney ponies for over 40 years. As a younger man Don and one of his road ponies could be seen at almost every Kentucky county fair on Saturday nights. In the later years he was just as noticeable on the rail as he loved to watch Mary, Monica, Angie, and his granddaughter Lauren show. He was also looking forward to watching his grandson Clay, who has just started his show career under the direction of Todd and Alison Walker at Spring Hill Stables in Georgetown Ky.

Anyone who ever attended a Kentucky county fair probably met or saw Don Burnette. He loved to talk and rarely met a stranger. If you've stood beside him on the rail and he didn't agree with the decisions a judge made, then you have probably heard him say "I've been to over 52 county fairs and I ain't never seen nothing like that!"  Don Burnette will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
