Busy Winter at the Troutmans’ Meadow Wood Stables

This has been a wonderfully busy fall and winter at Danny and Nancy Troutman’s Meadow Wood Stables in Salem, Va.  Since late October, several horses have been bought and sold, and some new owners brought into the fun business of showing horses.

Tom and Irene Brock of Roanoke purchased the cute bay pleasure gelding, Heavenly Whisper, for their seven-year-old granddaughter Kaitlyn Creekmore. Whisper has been in training at Meadow Wood for the past two years and has been very successful in the juvenile ranks with former owner Jessica Craighead. He is Kaitlyn's new mount for walk & trot equitation and pleasure classes. They really make a cute pair.

The Brocks also purchased Sir Country for their daughter Susie Creekmore to show in adult pleasure.  Susie rode during high school with Lynda Freseth, but has been out of the horse scene for a few years. She and her family are excited to be getting back into the show ring.  Sir Country was owned by Carol Reedy of Roanoke and shown successfully in the amateur park division by Carol.

Paul and Martha Higginbotham are the proud new owners of a gorgeous black three-year-old filly named Sultan’s Grace. Grace was raised by and purchased from Helen Hartt of Raphine, Va. She will remain in training at Meadow Wood with the focus on making a pleasure driving horse for Martha. Paul and Martha used to own Saddlebreds several years ago, but have been out of the business for a while. We are excited to have them once again talking horses!

Hannah Horton of Mt. Airy, NC is the proud new owner of the five-year-od park gelding Premiere Connection.  He was owned and raised by the Troutmans and selected for Hannah by her trainer Kristy Johnson.  The plan is for Hannah to show him in juvenile pleasure this year under the Johnson’s direction.

The Battista family of Utica, NY have just purchased the flashy pleasure gelding, Middle March, for their daughter Alex. March was selected for Alex by trainer Ricky Harris as her new country pleasure horse. He was formerly owned by Jessica Schaaff of Salem and shown quite successfully in juvenile show pleasure by Jessi.

Jack and Dorothy Richards have finally purchased that road horse that Jack, Sr. has been dreaming about for a long time! They bought the pretty black gelding, Fly By Night, that was expertly shown by Jimmy Robertson for the past two seasons. Jack is having fun driving him and is looking forward to flying around the ring this year.

Jessica Craighead is the proud new owner of a two-year-old filly named Just Plain Jane, raised and formerly owned by Marilyn Estes. Just Plain Jane will be trained as Jessica’s future mount.

Looks like it is going to be a busy year. Good luck to you all!
