Bryan Fred Blackmon, 75



Bryan Fred Blackmon, 75, of Lancaster, SC died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007.

 

Born Jan. 4, 1932, he was the son of the late Fred Ezell and Clara Baker Blackmon. He was a self-employed blacksmith and horse trainer. He was inducted into the Carolinas Horsemen's Hall of Fame in 2000 by the United Professional Horsemen's Association Chapter 12. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Jeannie Mills of Sharon and Brenda Franklin of Fort Mill; a sister, Elsie Russell of Union; two brothers, Chalmers and Donald Blackmon, both of Lancaster; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by a son, Mitchell Blackmon.

 

Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Antioch Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Bill Sumner and Pat Minihane, with burial in the church cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday, Aug. 8) at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

 

Bryan was instrumental in the success of many Carolina trainers and horses too many to name.
