Ansel Lewis Hull Obituary



Lewis Hull, 91, of Fort Myers Florida and summer home in Decatur, IL passed away at 9:45 A.M. on Sunday, October 21, 2007 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

 

Lew was born on July 7, 1916 in Clinton, IL, the son of George Arthur and Nora B. Massey Hull. He married Catherine Ann Robinson March 29, 1941. He later married Linda Noles Staggs on April 29, 1972. Lew was a Captain in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. Among other duties he served with the combined Chiefs of Staff Office in the White House. Lew was an attorney in Decatur from 1939 until 1995 when he moved to his home office at his “Paradise Farms” near LaPlace. He continued to work part-time there and enjoy his horses until 2005. He bred and exhibited American Saddlebred horses for many years.

 

Lew was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Decatur, the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Fort Myers, FL, a lifetime member of the Rotary International Club, a former board member of Kemmerer Village in Assumption, IL and the Midwest Charity Horse Show in Springfield, IL. He was a member of the Country Club of Decatur and Fiddlesticks Country Club of Fort Myers, FL. Lew was involved with the development of the South Shores Shopping Center, Northgate Mall, Fairview Plaza and Hickory Point Mall. He loved his family above all, his horses and “Paradise Farms.”

 

Lew is survived by his wife Linda; son Stephen L. Hull and his wife Vicki of Boca Raton, FL, daughter Luann Hull-Weigand of Aspen, CO; stepson, Jeffery L. Staggs of Effingham, IL; grandsons, William S. Hull and his wife Blair of Longwood, FL, David L. Hull and his wife Judith of Lake Worth, FL, Nestor R.Weigand III of New York City, NY, Stephen L. Weigand of Los Angeles, CA; four special great- grandchildren, Bradley Lewis Hull, Michael William Hull, David Todd Hull and Hailey Catherine Hull. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

 

Services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 26, 2007 at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Following the funeral service, a celebration of his life will be held from 12:00 until 2:00 P.M. at the Country Club of Decatur. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Decatur IL, Covenant Presbyterian Church in Fort Myers, FL or the Country Club of Decatur Building Fund.
