2nd Annual Black Tie & Boots Ball at Devon

DEVON, Pa.—The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair will host its second annual Black Tie & Boots Ball in the Dixon Oval on Friday, May 11.

The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair President, Wade L. McDevitt, will preside over the celebration and Carson Kressley, famous for his role in Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, is the Honorary Chairman.

Last year’s ball, held in celebration of Devon’s 110th anniversary, was a huge success, and the format for this year’s festivities remains the same.

“We are going to carpet the ring again,” said McDevitt. “This year we will have cocktails and dinner and dancing in one enormous tent that will hold over 400 people.”

“Calling it the Black Tie & Boots Ball follows the character of Devon, the formal tradition and the country sensibility,” said McDevitt.

The cocktail hour at 6:30, with the Paula Johns Jazz Trio, is followed by dinner and dancing at 7:30 featuring the Tim Gillis Band, an award-winning country dance band.
The inaugural Black Tie Ball brought a younger group to enjoy the ambience of Devon and encouraged a wider participation of the community.

Black tie is optional, but boots are recommended. Valet parking is provided.
Adding an additional day to celebrate its 111th year, the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair runs from Thursday, May 24 to Sunday, June 3.

The Ball benefits the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair Foundation, and Devon in turn benefits the Bryn Mawr Hospital, to which it has donated over $12 million since 1919.

Olympic veterans and top horses compete in a wide variety of competitions, ranging from jumpers to hunters, Saddlebreds, roadsters and four-in-hand driving, plus there will be exhibitions of dressage, barrel racing, border collies and carriage racing.
Boutique shopping for sporting clothes, paintings and prints, gorgeous gold and silver jewelry, fancy hats, leather goods and antiques serves hundreds of shoppers at Devon. There is food for every palate from hamburgers and hot dogs to gourmet dining.

Adjacent to the rows of boutiques is a complete fair offering games and rides and the Ferris wheel that looms over the grounds.

Save the date, May 11, to kick up your heels at the Devon show grounds. For information on the celebration, call 877-DEVON 4 U, (338-6648).
