Adelita Passes Away
Thursday, May 1, 2008
The great show mare, Adelita, passed away Sunday April 27 at the age of 11. She was buried at Kalarama Farm. A beautiful, talented daughter of Callaway’s Blue Norther, she was out of the Broodmare Hall of Fame mare, Callaway’s Agatha Christie.
David Rudder owned and loved this game, beautiful mare since her junior year, 2001. In 2002 and 2003, she was the Five-Gaited Mare World’s Champion and came back on Saturday night to take the Reserve World’s Grand Championship both years. Larry Hodge showed her to those titles for Rudder. In 2005, the mare moved to the amateur ranks with Rudder now aboard and took the Amateur Gentlemen’s Five-Gaited World’s Championship.
Her final show ring performance came last year at the UPHA/American Royal. Trimmed and showing in the always difficult Amateur Three-Gaited ranks, Adelita and Rudder took home the 15.2-and-Under qualifier and the National Championship.
The show ring will miss this grand mare, but not as much as David Rudder and the entire Kalarama family. The Saddlebred world has lost a shining star.
