Sunday Matinee Highlights From WCHS

The second session of the 2017 World’s Championship Horse Show got underway at noon on Sunday with 15 classes, namely four splits of the Adult Show Pleasure class, older age group equitation classes, open park qualifiers, amateur road pony and horse classes, gaited ponies and an amateur gentlemen’s long-tail class.

Starting with the defending world’s champion of champions (CH Spread The Word) who won a qualifier again for the third consecutive year, the first split of adult pleasure was loaded to the hilt. Winning the other three splits were Completely Caveat, Fox Grape’s Relentless and Callaway’s Kix.

Desmar Stables had two of the equitation winners in Victoria Walz and Masie Benfield. In the 14-year-old class, which was won by Hollow Haven’s Isabella Privitera, the top three riders were instructed in Wisconsin within five mils of each other.

Staking their claim as top contenders for world’s champion of champions honors later in the week, My Royale Prince was the Three-Gaited Park Stallion/Gelding winner with Steve Wheeler riding for Carol Hillenbrand, while Smith Lilly and Nella Fantasia defeated all the top names in the Three-Gaited Park Mare section.

Winning the speed classes on this first afternoon of showing were Regal’s Night Shadow LF and Deborah Jahn, Crazy Daisy and Scott Hagan, and Sirfistication with Mary Jane Glasscock.

Action resumes at 6:30 this evening with the ASR Four-Year-Old Fine Harness Sweepstakes. Complete results and judges’ cards may be found at www.saddlehorsereport.com.
