The 2010 Dayton Horse Show, slated for Aug. 4–7, will in its historic tradition be held at the urban setting of the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Dayton, Ohio. The show has worked hard to bring the general public to the horse show with a push on local media via radio, TV, fliers, posters, billboards and the use of the national equine media.

This year’s judge will be Richard Obenauf, Ringwood, Ill. Also in center ring will be two learner judges, Kathy Abbott of High Spirit Farm and Jodi Bertagnoli of Heritage Farm.

The welcome wagon will be out once again to the owners, trainers and exhibitors with soft drinks and water provided during arrival and unloading. Thanks once again to the Kroger Company, carrots and apples will be available to our four-legged friends throughout the four-day event.

Back by popular demand from the 2009 show will be the National Champion Cowgirl Express Rodeo Drill Team who brought down the house with their precisioned performance and will also participate in the UPHA Pink Ribbon by forming the now famous Pink Ribbon.

A very popular event, the Trainers’ Brunch, complimentary to the trainers and assistant trainers only, will take place on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 4, (location to be announced) and on Wednesday evening, August 4, the presentation of the 2010 Dayton Horse Show Hall Of Fame will take place in center ring.

Thursday, Aug. 5, the much anticipated UPHA Pink Ribbon Ladies Five-Gaited class will take place. This year’s event will once again take center stage with a special vocal presentation by local artist Mike Carney. This event has great support via the Grandview/Kettering Medical Network. All those wearing pink that evening will be admitted to the show grounds free of charge with donations being accepted at the gaits.

Friday evening, Aug. 6, the Therapeutic Riding Institute, the show’s charity, will hold center ring a special and poignant presentation. This valuable organization, made up of mostly caring volunteers and professionals, provides through horses valuable rehabilitation to those children and adults with physical challenges. In addition, they also set up a tent on vendors’ row with much information regarding their organization and how you can become a welcomed volunteer.

Saturday evening, Aug. 7, center ring, the Cowgirl Express will perform as well as give a special presentation to the academy riders. This event is well received and it allows parents, grandparents and family members the opportunity to see their riders get much deserved recognition.

The $1,500 Trainers’ Incentive is in place for the trainer of the winning entry in the Fine Harness, Three-Gaited and Five-Gaited Grand Championship. Plans are in the works to add yet another class to this incentive with another $500 added to the event for the new class.
