WWU to Host Riding Instructor Certification

FULTON, MO—William Woods University will help bring new instructors into the equestrian field and re-certify old ones by hosting the 2007 American Riding Instructor Association (ARIA) certification program Saturday (March 10).
This is the second year that William Woods was chosen as the host site for this program, which includes multiple written tests and a presentation by those wishing to be certified.
Linda McClaren, associate professor of equestrian science, and Gayle Lampe professor of equestrian science, are both ARIA certified. Jean Kraus, professor of equestrian science, will act as test site administrator.
Kraus feels that this will be a good opportunity for the students.
“Part of their Teaching Tech Seminar class is based off of ARIA structure,” Kraus said. “They could be certified right here without any travel expenses…if that is something they choose to do, it makes it very available to the students.”
The American Riding Instructor’s Certification Program was established in 1984 by the ARIA as a way to recognize and certify teachers of horseback riding who teach their students in a safe, knowledgeable and professional manner.
ARICP offers certification to instructors in three levels of experience and in 14 teaching specialties. Re-certification is required every five years.
