World Cup Equitation Teams Selected

Posted February 12, 2002
At the World Cup tryouts held at William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri February 8-10, the three-gaited and five-gaited teams representing the United States were selected.

The three-gaited team is made up of Kristin Ahern of Esperance, NY; Tate Bennett of Shelbyville, Ky; Devon Garone of Richmond, NH; Brooke Jacobs of Georgetown, KY; and Matthew Williams of Louisville, KY.

The five-gaited team was selected to include Jonelle Chovanec of Chicago, IL; Lucinda Hartley of Elizabethtown, KY; Abigail Reising of Arlington Heights, IL; Kelcy Smith of New Orleans, LA; and Ashley Birdsong of Kirksville, Mo.

The tryouts consisted of riders being scored on two rides and two individual workouts, as well as a personal interview. A numerical scoring system was used to score all phases of the competition. Riders competed on horses made available by the University’s Saddle Seat program.
