Wednesday Morning at the Royal

The junior equitation exhibitors were up bright and early to compete in their Challenge Cup preliminary trial. Seventeen riders turned in their best. Twelve riders will be called back for the finals later this evening.

The performance classes got off to a start with many classes ending in a unanimous decision.

The Amateur Three-Gaited 15.2 and Over class proved to be a competition of world and national champions. New York’s Perfect Gift and Betsy Thomas rode off with the unanimous decision of the judges with CH Sue She and Ericka Nelson riding hard for reserve.

In an exciting one-two sweep for Clouse Stables, Decisive Moment and Suzanna Crews captured the blue while stablemate Colonel Hoss and Justin Cowley earned the reserve.

The Junior Exhibitor 14 and Under Three-Gaited class was filled with world-class action. The top three ribbons were awarded to current or former world’s champions. CH An Heir About Her and Marjorie Townsend earned the blue, with Ostentatiously and Brittany McGinnis, and That’s Chicago and Katie Cunningham following respectively in the ribbons.

The Junior Park Pleasure class brimmed with young talent who are sure to make a splash in the coming years. Milligan Stables’ assistant trainer Jenn Holdren directed The Final Edition to the win, topping a class of 13. Fox Grape Farms is the owner of the winning entry. Smith Lilly earned the reserve honor with Cat’s My Daddy.

Closing out the morning session was the 16-horse Junior Exhibitor 15-17 Show Pleasure class. Like all the other pleasure classes this morning, this one was impressive with the large number of quality horses. However, when it was over the judges were of one mind and unanimously sent CH Blackberry Delight and Rachel Machamer to the winner’s circle.
