USEF National and Regional Champions – Hackney Division

The Federation began the Horse Of The Year awards program in 1944 and harness pony was one of the six original divisions offered. In 1953, Hackney pony was added to the program. Recently, Farnum/Platform became the title sponsor of this prestigious program which is one of the oldest nationally recognized multi-breed awards programs in the country. These awards are celebrated during the USEF Annual Meeting Gala held each January where members earning the title of National Champion are recognized for their hard work and dedication. Winners have the honor of having their names engraved on one of the many beautiful perpetual trophies. These awards are on display throughout the year at the USEF headquarters located at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., and all are invited to view these historic trophies during office hours Monday through Friday 8:30-5:00.

Your Hackney can begin earning points once the official horse recording form has been received. It is as easy as filling out an application, which can be found on the USEF Web site or may be obtained by calling the Federation office. You can also record your horse at any USEF recognized competition. The cost for life recording a horse is $35 until Dec. 31 of the year foaled; $85 for horses one year of age: $160 for horses two years of age; and $200 for horses three years or older. Annual recordings are also available for $75 per year. Once the horse is recorded, points can begin accumulating for Horse Of The Year awards. At least one owner of the recorded horse must be a member in good standing with the USEF. For horses registered in a farm name, contact the Federation office regarding a one-time farm registration fee.

Horses earn points by participating in USEF recognized competitions as per USEF Rule GR902. Showing at the Kentucky State Fair earns double points and each year, one competition in each region will be designated as a triple point show where ponies earn triple points. However, points are not awarded in classes with less than three entries (see USEF Rule GR905.2) Currently, only 185 horses out of an approximate 70,000 USEF recorded horses are Hackneys. Record your pony and start earning points for the 2007 competition year.
