UPHA Chapter 12 North Carolina State Championship Cancelled

Due to the imminent threat of severe weather from Hurricane Florence, officials have cancelled this week’s UPHA Chapter 12 North Carolina State Championship, which was scheduled to be held in Raleigh, September 12 -15.

“Safety for people, livestock and property was our main concern,” said manager Peyton Hamilton. “We were ready for a good horse show as 420-some stalls were sold. We had the largest number of entries for the Carolina Futurity classes as they’ve had in a long time with more than $50,000 up for grabs in that program. We also had a couple of retirements, some outside entertainment and a great party all lined up. There was a lot of energy surrounding this week’s show.

“I’m really proud to be a part of this team. They made absolutely the right decision. I’ve already had some exhibitors and sponsors call and say they are here for us and ready to support this show even stronger next year. We’ve had a couple of shows reach out to us to offer to host this year’s Carolina Futurity and that committee is figuring out what to do with that as we speak. We’ll make an announcement just as soon as they have a plan.”
