UPHA Chapter 11 Publishes Second Book

In an excerpt from UPHA Chapter 11’s newly released book, Nothing But The Truth, Volume 2, Bobby Murphy shares stories and memories of his father Walter Murphy.

“When my dad was a child my grandfather, James (Jim Jack) Murphy, was a trainer for Cordy Mountjoy.  My dad was just a little guy and Mr. Mountjoy told my dad, ‘Now we’ve got important clients coming.  We’re going to show them some babies.  Now I want you to get a pocket full of rocks; and those old hogs over there, I want you to go around to those feeders and I want you to take those rocks and hit those tin feeders when those colts come out.  And no matter what I say, you don’t stop.’  So they brought the colts out and Dad’s over there throwing those rocks against those tin feeders and those hogs were making all kinds of noise.  Those colts were getting big and flagging themselves.  One guy said, ‘Cordy, why don’t you tell that boy to stop doing that?’  Mr. Cordy hollered at my dad, ‘I told you to stop doing that!’  Dad just kept throwing the rocks and they probably sold several colts that day.  Mr. Cordy had so many animals, so many ways of getting a horse’s attention.  He was some kind of a guy.  I don’t think the he himself was a rider and driver, but he knew how to sell a horse.”

Bobby Murphy, Dudley Abbott, Gene and Kathy Boggs, Rob and Sarah Byers, Wes and Sena Bowling, Lillian Shively, Marilyn Macfarlane, Marty Mueller, David Mountjoy, Rick Wallen, and Patty Milligan are among the fifty-five horsemen and horsewomen who shared memories and stories for the 150 page book.  Nothing But the Truth, Volume 2 can be purchased by ordering on www.uphachapter11.com or by mail.  Send mail orders to Mindy Preston, 809 Sunset Drive, Noblesville, IN 46060.  NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH Vol. 2, $20.00 plus $3.00 postage
