Upcoming Educational Events at the American Saddlebred Museum

The American Saddlebred Museum is pleased to announce several educational events scheduled for September and October. These events include a special equine inspired creative writing workshop and the ongoing Lunchtime Lecture Series.
Back by popular demand is the Horsing Around Creative Writing Workshop. This workshop is a partnership between the American Saddlebred Museum and the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning and will be led by Randi Ewing. This class has been expanded to two days, attend one session or both.
In Kentucky, no animal is more central to the story than the horse. Whether they are the hero’s faithful steed or themselves the heroes, horses become characters in their own right, to serve as foils and mirrors for human characters, and to create unexpected and surprising pathways in our stories. In this class, we will take inspiration from the American Saddlebred Museum at the Kentucky Horse Park and use generative prompts to explore how writing about horses can lead to new and interesting work. Randi Ewing’s short fiction has appeared in American Short Fiction, Little Star, and Joyland. She has taught creative writing at Eastern Kentucky University and Washington University in St. Louis.

Join us on Thursday, October 3 when Maria Schnobrich, VMD, Dipl. ACT will speak at our Lunchtime Lecture series. Dr. Schnobrich is a boarded theriogenologist and an expert in equine reproduction at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington.
This lecture is free and open to the public. Box lunches are available for $12 by calling (859) 259-2746 by October 1.
