The Stephens College $20,000 Scholarship

The Stephens College $20,000 Scholarship, sponsored by Sally Jackson, provides a $20,000 scholarship to the winner of the 2022 UPHA Senior Challenge Cup National Championship.

The purpose behind this award is to encourage the youth of the industry to seek higher education and benefit the future of the equine industry.

"Helping our young people have a successful career in the horse industry is extremely important whether it is as an owner, breeder, exhibitor or professional," stated Sally. "Hopefully, this scholarship will help someone pursue their educational interest and be able to make an impact on this industry that has been so good and has meant so very much to me."

The scholarship will be awarded to a student who wishes to enroll and pursue Equestrian Studies at Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri. The Scholarship shall be awarded in the following manner:

A $20,000 scholarship will be awarded to the 2022 UPHA Senior Challenge Cup National Championship winner. The winner must declare their intent to utilize the Scholarship by November 17, 2022.

Upon verification of the student’s enrollment to Stephens College the United Professional Horsemen’s Association will pay Stephens College $15,000 in the recipient’s name towards the scholarship. In return, Stephens College will provide an additional $5,000 Scholarship in the UPHA recipient’s name as well. This $20,000 scholarship may be applied to any year of the student’s enrollment.

In the instance the 2022 UPHA Senior Challenge Cup National Championship winner is unable to use this award, a UPHA Press Release will be issued announcing that the Scholarship has been opened to an application process. Riders 14 -17 years of age, that competed and qualified for the 2022 UPHA Senior Challenge Cup National Championship or the 2022 UPHA Senior Arabian. National Show Horse or Morgan Breed Challenge Cup National Championships are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

The application process will be from November 21 - December 5, 2022. All applications must be received by midnight December 5, 2022. Applicants are required to submit an essay, either written or video, not to exceed 2 minutes, to the UPHA review committee. The essay must state the name/date of the Competition where the rider qualified for their respective UPHA Challenge Cup National Final, why the applicant wants to pursue an education in Equestrian Studies, their career goals, how this scholarship would help them and why they would like to study at Stephens College.

Recipient must be a member of UPHA and USEF.

The winner of the Stephens College $20,000 Scholarship will be announced December 12, 2022, and recognized at the 2023 UPHA National Conference in Orlando, Fl.
