Saddle Horse Report’s First Breeders’ Report

Supreme Heir’s offspring continue to keep his

memory alive as they accumulated over 12,000

points to place their sire at the top of the

first Saddle Horse Report’s Breeders’ Report.

by Jennifer Styskal

Breeders are forever searching for ways to best the competition, whether it be in a new crossing of bloodlines or simply breeding to the top producing stallion. The Saddle Horse Report has added one more factor to a breeder’s calculations: the Breeders’ Report.

Implemented at the beginning of 2007, the Breeders’ Report is fashioned after our successful High Point Report. Points earned by this past season’s show horses are attributed to their stallions and are then tallied. Points are broken down by division and category, so breeders can see who is not only breeding the most successful show horses overall, but also who is the top-producing in each division.

With results accumulated from horse shows across the nation, as well as overseas, it is a great way to keep track of the success of individual sires through their offsprings’ achievements in the show ring.

Breeders and owners can stay up to date on their stallions’ rating throughout the show year by visiting the Breeders’ Report section at www.saddlehorsereport.com.

Now for an overview of the top 20 overall sires of 2007.

It has been four years since the influential sire Supreme Heir passed away. Yet so strong are his bloodlines that he continues to top sire performance charts. That also holds true for the first Saddle Horse Report Breeders’ Report. With more than twice the points of any other stallion, the offspring of Supreme Heir continue to dominate the show ring, competing in over 1,000 classes and accumulating over 12,000 points.

Not only did the Supreme Sultan son top the overall chart, he also claimed first place on three of the four divisional rankings. CH His Supreme Reflection, That’s Chicago, The Lady’s Heir, Heir To A Star and His Heirness are a few of the many offspring who put their sire at the top of the three-gaited/park overall top 10 chart. In the fine harness section, Supreme Heir had such stars as Nurse Goodbody, Open Arms, Kiri, Piece de Resistance and Supreme Spotlight, among many others, earning top points. And to claim the number one spot in the pleasure division, Supreme Heir can credit CH The Shadow Knows, CH Riva Diva, Heirithmatic, CH Lightnin Lil, The Majestic, CH Lover’s Heir, CH Sweet Virginia, CH French Silk Stockings and She Phloats On Heir, as well as countless others, as contributors to his point total.

While Supreme Heir may no longer be with us, it can be rest assured that his legacy will live on in the performances of his offspring.

A longtime fixture at the famed Callaway Hills, CH Caramac continues to populate the show ring results with his proven offspring, topping the overall chart at number two. Caramac also made his mark in all four of the divisional ranks. Placing him in the top three of five-gaited sires were Caramac’s Bogart, Callaway’s Lil Abner, Bluebonnet’s Wild Thing, Cara Clara, Undulata Prophet, Callaway’s On Line and Callaway’s Sea Horse, among others. Earning top points in the three-gaited/park section to put Caramac in fourth place, were CH Caramac’s Norma Rae, Callaway’s Connotation, Caramac’s Counterclaim, Caramaya, Carissimo and CH Viper. Caramac also sired such champions as Callaway’s Carnegie Hall, Callaway’s Clemency, Callaway’s Four Leaf Clover, Callaway’s Whirligig and Callaway’s Cavalla to earn the eighth position on the fine harness charts. And pushing the CH Will Shriver son to the fifth spot in the pleasure section were Callaway’s Where There’s A Will, Callaway’s Simon Says, Talon, CH Unforgiven, Callaway’s Jack Frost, Callaway’s Cassandra and Holy Hannah, among several others.

Periaptor came in third on this impressive list of show horse producing stallions with 5,392 points earned from 491 classes. By CH Courageous Admiral and out of Eliana, this stretchy bay stallion, owned by the Loose family, has firmly established himself as the number two sire of three-gaited/park and fine harness show ring stars. Some walk-trot standouts sired by Periaptor include CH Sue-She, Memories Merlot, Periaptor’s Dancing Star, Tuff Hedeman, CH Highland Cavalier, Peritime and CH Royal Messenger. But Periaptor’s offspring look just as good under harness. Proving this are Gone Platinum, Ribbons And Reins, Brookhill’s Periday, Voulez Vous, Let It Roll and Magical Attraction.

Another Will Shriver son, Callaway’s Blue Norther, has taken a top spot on the overall sire list, coming in at number four. Out of the Royal Rambler daughter, Royally Blue, Blue Norther is the number one five-gaited producing stallion this year. He also ranked eighth on the three-gaited/park and pleasure charts. Enforcing Blue Norther’s right to be at the top of the five-gaited chart include CH Callaway’s Born To Win, Callaway’s Winning Ways, Callaway’s Karla, CH Callaway’s Banner Headline, Callaway’s Blue Blood, Callaway’s Millennium Lady, A Whole Different Story and Callaway’s Northern Exposure, among countless others.

His list of three-gaited/park offspring include Aurora Borealis, Callaway’s Blue Waltz, CH Callaway’s Halley’s Comet, Woulda Coulda Shoulda, Callaway’s Happy Endings and Callaway’s Due North. Callaway’s Blue Agate, Callaway’s North Wind, She’s Gone Blonde, Crimson Blue, Callaway’s Hit Man, Callaway’s Northern Fling and Callaway’s Maelstrom put the sire in the top 10 of pleasure sires.

Saddle Horse Report’s 2005, 2006 and 2007 World’s Champion Number One Sire, CF First Night Out, came in fifth while representing Blythewood Farm on the Breeders’ Report with 4,701 points. The son of CH Night Prowler, out of Happy Twenty-First, also made his mark in the five-gaited, fine harness and pleasure divisions. Taking the eighth spot in the gaited ranks, First Night Out had such champions as CF Night’s First Impression, Kalarama’s All Time High, CF Night At The Castle, Pick Me First, Just Heavenly, I’m First, Busting Out and CH CF Night So Rare.

First Night Out also claimed fourth place on the fine harness chart, siring such performers as Stonecroft Sweet Confection, At Night, Night Sight, Ginger Blossom, Without You, Willie Bracket, Sugar Pine and Spend The Night. Also putting him in the top four pleasure sires were Teuschers, CH Hard Days Night TS, CH CF First Light Of Dawn, My One Night Stand, Out Go The Lights, The Last Straw, Foremost, First Night Vision, Out All Night and CF Private Night Out, among many others.

Another deceased stallion who made it into the top 10 of the Breeders’ Report, thanks to his successful offspring, is CH The King Of Highpoint, coming in at number six. Right behind Supreme Heir on the pleasure divisional charts at number two, King Of Highpoint also rounded out the top 10 three-gaited/park performance sires. Still carrying on the Sultan’s Contract and Indiana Flame cross are Highpoint’s Fancy Cat, Super Rooster, CH Highpoint’s Abba Zabba, The King’s Champagne, Highpoint’s Prince, Hasani, Picabo Street, CH The King’s Man, Seaforth’s Heiristotle and Highpoint’s Grandee, among many others, in the pleasure sections. Keeping their sires name among the best of three-gaited/park sires are Freakness, CH Tip O The Hat, Coco Royale, Highpoint’s So Sassy, Peppermint Schnapps, The King’s Firestorm and Highpoint’s Heart Throb.

Taking the seventh position this year is the Manhattan Supreme son, Catalyst, who stands under the direction of his longtime owner Dick Kearney. Catalyst’s get collected 4,213 points from 377 classes. Out of the CH Superior Odds daughter, Lakeview’s Captured Angel, he also placed seventh on the top 10 pleasure sires. CH He Walks On Water, CH A Magic Spell, Mo Rhythm, CH Catalyst Commander, Miraculous Odds, Last Cat Standing, Intriguing Masterpiece and Itchy Foot Moe all contributed points to their sire’s total in the pleasure section. Also offspring like Colonel Hoss and Carolina Cat made Catalyst the second top producing sire of junior exhibitor five-gaited horses.

The late Roseridge Heir came in eighth place, ranking second among five-gaited sires and ninth among pleasure. By Madeira’s Gift and out of the Ridgefield Heir daughter Cedar Creek My Red Rose, Roseridge Heir has been a proven stallion for years. Some of his get who pushed him up the charts and landed him as the number two five-gaited sire are CH Roseridge’s Gold, Miss Outta My Way, Keep Me Posted, CH Have You Ever, Roseridge’s All Mine, Courageous Lord and Ventura’s Gold Card. Some of those point-earning offspring were Up Close & Personal WRF, Heathermoor’s Prince, Omerta, Like A Rocket, Marching Orders, The Great Gaspar, Beaujolais Nouveau, Ms Veronica Lake, Ms Amber Merchant and Any Given Sunday in the three-gaited/park divisions.

Placing their sire in the top 10 of fine harness stallions were All Buttoned Up, Simbara’s Exclamation, Be Advised, Beautiful Stranger OCF and A Flourish. Because of such champions as Sing My Song, CH Simbara’s Samba Jamba, The Bachelor Prince, Good Graces, Harlem’s Moonstruck, CH Callaway’s Royal Request, I’m Dreaming and Rum Tum Tigger, Merchant Prince was also the top 10 pleasure-producing stallion.

Parker View Farms’s Santana’s Charm not only rounded out the top 10 on the overall sire list, but also appeared on three of the four divisional ratings. A former Amateur Five-Gaited World’s Champion Of Champions and with Sultan’s Santana and Vanity’s Sensation Of Crebilly breeding, this shouldn’t be a surprise. Earning some of Santana’s Charm’s total 4,085 points to place him in the top four of five-gaited sires were Twice Charmed, CH Amusing, Sheba’s Charm, SDR’s Calypso Rhythm, I’m Royalty Too, I’m Something Wicked, Gotta Be Charmed, Mojo, CH Our Silver Charm, Princess Mara and Charming Dreams.
