Roger Meade Passes Away



Roger Clayton Meade, 73, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2012 in Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Born September 14, 1939 in Russell County he was the son of the late Cecil and the late Frances Kiser Meade. A graduate of Castlewood High School class of 1957, Roger was a retired employee of Appalachian Power Company, Clinch River Plant with 32 years of service. He was owner and operator of Roger Meade Stables.  He was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother: Reginald Meade; one nephew: David Meade; one brother-in-law: Clifford Huffman; and one sister-in-law: Janet Meade.

Survivors include wife of 53 years: Gladys Meade; two daughters: Darlene Rose and husband Tim; and Laura McComas and husband Robert, all of Lebanon, VA; one granddaughter: Martha Carter and husband Travis, Lebanon, VA; two sisters: Joyce Huffman, Bristol, VA; and Janice Musick and husband Douglas, Kingsport, TN; one brother: Duff Meade, Honaker, VA; one sister-in-law: Betty Meade, Florida; Also several nieces and nephews survive.

The family would like to thank Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for the outstanding and loving care they have provided.

The funeral service will be conducted 2 pm Friday, November 30, 2012 in the Combs Funeral Service chapel with the Rev. Larry Burton and Mr. Randy Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Huffman, Darin Huffman, Jeff Turner, C.B. Musick, Bobby Vencill, Bryan Vencill, Randy Chafin and Clyde Hess. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the men of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 5 pm until 9 pm Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the funeral home.
