Reduced Rate Offered on AMHA’s Reciprocal Registrations

The American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) is offering Canadian and British Morgan owners the opportunity to update their registration records at a reduced price for the remainder of 2006. In lieu of the normal $30 fee for registering a non-AMHA registered Morgan with the AMHA as well as the additional $30 fee for each unregistered ancestor, Canadian and Great Britain Morgan owners have until
January 1, 2007 to complete this process for just $15.

The AMHA has had reciprocity with the Canadian Morgan Horse Association and the British Morgan Horse Society for many years.  After twenty years of operating their own registries, Canada and Great Britain now have registered Morgans in their Registry that are not contained in the  AMHA  Registry. These horses are showing up in the pedigrees of horses being imported into the United States.

During the April 2005 AMHA Registry and Board of Directors meetings, a fee to cover the expense of registering these unregistered ancestors was discussed. Effective since January 1, 2006, a fee of $30 per non-registered ancestor was approved to cover the cost of entering this information into the AMHA database.  In addition to the $30 fee for each horse being imported, a second $30 fee will be required for each non-AMHA registered ancestor in the pedigree of any Morgan being imported into the US.

However, the moratorium is available for Canadian and British owners that wish to dual register their horse even if the horse isn’t being sold into the US. During this moratorium, the owner of a Canadian or British registered horse can apply for an AMHA registration number at the reduced rate of $15 (normally $30) for their non-AMHA registered stock.  For a $15 fee any horse eligible for reciprocity can obtain an AMHA registration number.  The one $15 fee also covers any non-AMHA registered ancestors the horse may have.

If you have questions or concerns on how this applies to a specific horse you are planning to import, please contact the Registry Department at AMHA and we can review the pedigree with you, 802-985-4944.
