Obituary Lewis David “Buddy” Freeman

Lewis David “Buddy” Freeman, 66, died Feb. 6, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville, S.C. Born in Greenville, Buddy was the son of Lewis E. Freeman of Greenville and the late Beatrice Dugan Freeman. He was a travel agent and formerly president of Standard Supply Company of Greenville. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Clemson University, and had served in the U.S. Army. Freeman was very active in Saddle Horse circles in the Southeast for over 50 years. In addition to owning and showing horses and ponies for himself over the years, he was active as a judge and in horse show management. He will be remembered for his involvement with the Greenville Horse Show (now known as the J. D. Massey Classic Horse Show). Freeman was involved in putting together the arrangements that brought such noted horses as Hallelujah and Miss Nola to the Carolinas in the 1960s and even during his last illness was deeply involved in business transactions in the Saddlebred world. Survivors in addition to his father, are a brother, Bill Freeman of Columbia, S.C., and a sister, Jan Freeman of Greer, S.C. Memorials may be made to the Foreign Mission Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 200 West Washington Street, Greenville, SC 29601, or to the American Saddlebred Museum, 4093 Iron Works Parkway, Lexington, KY 40511.
