Obituary CH Sapphire & Silk

CH Sapphire & Silk was humanely put down after suffering a severely fractured leg. Foaled in 1990, “Sophie” was by The Kentucky Wildcat and out of the mare Santana’s Symphonette, making her a full sister to CH Laguardia. As a youngster, Sophie was campaigned in fine harness by Virgil Helm before taking to the show ring under saddle. Eventually, she was owned by Jill Gibson and she was successfully campaigned in the show pleasure division for two seasons under the direction of Andy and Lynda Freseth’s Hollow Haven Farm.

She was purchased by Toree Lewis Hefner in the fall of 1998. Toree and Sophie had four winning years together gathering blues at Bonnie Blue, Burlington, Pro-Am, International Springfest, River Ridge, National Pleasure Show, North Carolina State Fair, Oshkosh and the Wisconsin Futurity, just to name a few.

Toree had planned on campaigning this game mare for several more years before retiring her to the broodmare ranks.

“Every time she entered the ring, she gave 100 percent. She was game and gifted, and every time I entered the ring with her, it was a thrill,” said Hefner.

She was laid to rest at Hefner’s TLH Farm in Spencerville, Ohio.
