Nominations for UPHA Distinguished Service and Professional Achievement Awards Due October 1



The United Professional Horsemen's Association is accepting nominations for its Sallie B. Wheeler Distinguished Service Award, Lillian Shively Equitation Distinguished Service Award, Shirley Parkinson Professional Achievement Award, and the Dr. Scott Bennett Professional Services Award.

Nominations are due October 1, 2023.

Nominations must be submitted in writing or via email detailing why the candidate deserves the honor based on the award criteria. Nominations should be emailed to [email protected], or mailed to UPHA, 4059 Iron Works Parkway, Suite 2, Lexington KY 40511.

Sallie B. Wheeler Distinguished Service Award

The UPHA Sallie B. Wheeler Distinguished Service Award shall be presented to a person or people who have dedicated themselves to the betterment of the show horse industry and the profession of showing horses. They may or may not be a professional horseman/horsewoman; however, they must be of an unselfish nature and possess a total dedication to the show horse industry and its improvement and advancement.

Lillian Shively Equitation Distinguished Service Award

The UPHA Lillian Shively Equitation Distinguished Service Award shall be presented to a person or people, who have dedicated themselves to the betterment of the Equitation Division and its role in the show horse industry. This person is one who works to advance the interests of Equitation as a discipline and as a platform for riders to compete in the performance division.

Shirley Parkinson Professional Achievement Award

 The UPHA Shirley Parkinson Professional Achievement Award shall be presented to a professional Horseman/Horsewoman who in addition to training and working their horses, goes above and beyond to promote the UPHA and our industry. They must be of unselfish nature and possess a total dedication to the show horse industry and its improvement and advancement.

Dr. Scott Bennett Professional Services Award

The Dr. Scott Bennett Professional Services Award shall be presented to a person or couple, who earn their living serving the show horse industry, but not as professional trainers. Vets, farriers, horse show staff (managers, secretaries, etc), photographers, videographers, clothiers, journalists, equipment manufacturers, retailers, and others would be eligible. The ideal candidate shall be one who consistently supports the show horse industry by giving back to the industry to foster its betterment and advancement.
