MMHBF Gala Event Raises Over $45,000

This spring the Michigan Morgan Breeders’ Futurity (MMHBF) held its first ever Futurity Gala Event, an evening entitled “A Brighter Future.” The fund raiser was held at the Novi Hilton Hotel in Novi, Mich., with more than 120 guests enjoying the evening. While being entertained by the music of the Congdon Trio, Morgan fanciers began perusing the silent auction items available and the stallion service boards.

Guests then proceeded in the elegantly decorated ballroom where they enjoyed an outstanding meal and continued to listen to the sounds of the Congdon Trio. A short program followed, led by Leonard Kitchen, President of MMHBF, recognizing guest of honor Dr. Norman Krieger. Partial proceeds of this event are being donated to the Krieger Geriatric Center at the Juron Valley-Mount Sinai Hospital in Commerce, Mich. Edward Brennan spoke briefly reflecting on Dr. Krieger’s involvement in breeding and raising Morgan horses under the Rose Valley prefix, as well as his continued involvement and commitment to the medical community. Those in attendance included many Michigan Morgan breeders, their guests, members of the medical community, and Dr. Krieger’s lovely wife Teresa with their two daughters.

The evening moved into high gear as guests checked their bids on the many silent and stallion service auction items and then the live auction got underway. Jewelry and sports memorabilia were popular non-horse items and the horse related items were numerous and varied. When it was all over, more than $45,000 was raised with partial proceeds going to the Krieger Geriatric Center and over $20,000 will be going into 11 of the Futurity classes at the “A” rated 2002 MMHBF Horse Show to be held September 21-22, 2002. As a result of the gala, the MMHBF Weanling Breeders’ Sweepstakes class will pay out $10,000 this year.

The committee thanks all those who so generously donated to the special evening and those in attendance who helped make the auctions so successful. Next year’s event, “Ensuring Tomorrow Today,” will be held March 2.
