In Memory of Karen Dallas

Karen Dallas of Sobieski, Wisc., a longtime Morgan horse enthusiast passed away earlier this year. Karen was a partner in and manager of True Manor Morgans, a small breeding farm near Green Bay, Wisc. She shared the farm with her partner and best friend Terry True. Karen bred two Morgans of special note, True Vision who won the Three-Year-Old Western Pleasure Reserve World Championship in 1997, and True Gold who was the 1999 World Futurity Champion Two-Year-Old Pleasure Driving. True Gold, aka Skeeter, was Karen and Terry's pride and joy and fulfilled their dream to breed a World Champion. Skeeter was also a regular winner in hand, capturing the Grand Champion Stallion title at Gold Cup in 2000 under the artful direction of Judy Whitney, his trainer while Karen and Terry owned him.

Karen could muck a stall with the best of them as an evergreen scent wafted from her barn and dust never bothered to land. Friends standing in for her during her occasional trips were left with volumes of instructions, looks of no compromise, and constant reminder calls. Nothing was too good for her kids.

Those of us who knew of Karen's medical condition were awed by her ability to put it aside long enough to show her beloved mare Connie, or go for a trail ride. She remains an inspiration, and she will be missed.
