L.A. Blues Passes Away

The grand bay gelding, L.A. Blues, passed away on Sunday after a battle with colic at Brent and Jane Jacobs’ Werk Way Stables. At 20 years of age, L.A. Blues had carried a multitude of riders to wins, many of them in the Equitation division. Most recently he was the mount of Cagle James, who rode him to multiple wins in the Walk and Trot ranks. Mary Catherine Swinson, Ashley Alden, Emma Nichols, and Laura Byrd were all on his list of partners, as were Tom D. Pettry and Kristin Gilbert.

His early life was spent as a three-gaited horse. George Knight showed him to a top three finish in the ASHA National Three-Year-Old Three-Gaited Futurity. Rick Wallen selected him for Mary Ellen Golich, and they teamed with him for the next four years.

By Callaway’s Blue Norther and out of Spartan’s Choice Memories, by Sultan’s Spartan, L.A. Blues was last owned and loved by Cagle James.
