KY State Fair World's Championship Horse Show Announces Judges and Additions/Changes

The judges for the 103rd Kentucky State Fair and World's Championship Horse Show, Aug. 20-25, 2006 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Ky., will be Steve Crabtree of Elizabethtown, Ky.; Tom Ferrebee of Westfield Center, Ohio; Maria Gilman of Land O' Lakes, Fla.; Don Judd of Land O' Lakes, Fla.; and Jimmy Miller of Ashland, Mo.

Crabtree, Ferrebee, Judd and Miller will judge the Saddlebred, Roadster Horse and Roadster Pony divisions. Ferrebee, Judd and Miller will also judge the Hackney/Harness Pony division, with Miller acting as the call judge. In addition, Crabtree, Ferrebee, Gilman and Miller will judge the Equitation division, with Gilman acting as the call judge.

The Two-Year-Old Three-Gaited class will be conducted with declared splits according to the entries' designation of a set or unset tail. When completing the entry form, the letter “S,” for set, and the letter “U,” for unset, must be designated after the entry's name. Once declared, the entry cannot be changed to the other designation. Both sections will be judged according to USEF specifications for three-gaited horses. An entry in the unset tail section should have an elevated, flowing tail without any breakover. No devices, including but not limited to braces, shoestrings or tape, may be used to alter the position of the tail. Bustles may be used on the entry.  Judges will eliminate any horse in the unset tail section whose tail does not comply with this definition and the entry fee will be forfeited.

The Kentucky State Fair World's Championship Horse Show will host an Invitational Western Country Pleasure class comprised of a qualifying class and a championship. Sixteen horses with eight horses in reserve will be invited to compete in the Invitational. These horses will be chosen based upon the USEF point system used for the Horse of the Year Award. All Saddlebred horses competing in Western Country Pleasure classes at USEF recognized shows will be eligible for consideration, not just those registered with the USEF Horse of the Year program.

The American Saddlebred Horse Association will verify and confirm all results and point totals on behalf of the Kentucky State Fair World's Championship Horse Show. For purposes of this 2006 show, the qualifying period of July 3, 2005 to December 31, 2005, and eight more horses from the second qualifying period from January 1, 2006 to July 2, 2006. An additional eight horses will be held in reserve to take the place of any of the 16 who choose not to accept the invitation to compete.

The Kentucky State Fair Board reserves the right to resolve any dispute as to the accuracy of the point total used to determine which horses are deemed eligible to complete in the Inaugural Western Country Pleasure Invitational. The qualifying class will be held during the Wednesday afternoon session, and the championship will take place either in the Friday afternoon or evening session.

The Hackney/Harness Pony/Hackney Horse Pair class has been deleted from the schedule. A Roadster Pony to Wagon class will be held during the Saturday afternoon session.

Beginning in May, all information concerning the Kentucky State Fair World's Championship Horse Show can be accessed on the Kentucky State Fair Web site, www.kystatefair.org.
