KY State Fair QUICK TIPS From Scarlett Mattson




BEFORE THE SHOW

 

  • All changes or addition of classes to eligible entries must be submitted by Sunday, August 20, 2006, at 2:00 p.m.  Signed declarations and declaration fees for Futurity classes also must be submitted by this time.

 

  • Stall fees will be reimbursed if cancelled by August 16, 2006.

 

  • Local Day check-in will be August 13, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  If not already submitted, you will need:  

1.      copy of horse's registration certificate indicating the current owner;

2.      USEF membership cards for all owners, trainers and riders;

3.      ASHA membership cards for Saddlebred owners and trainers (if membership expired recently, an updated membership card must be presented);

4.      health papers and coggins;

5.      pony measurement cards; and

6.      open check.

 

  • The following may also be submitted prior to the show in one of the following ways – on Local Day, via fax (502.367.5305), via e-mail (SMattson@ksfb.ky.gov), or via mail (Kentucky State Fair, Horse Show Office, P. O. Box 37130, Louisville, KY 40233): 

1.      scratches – name of horse, trainer, owner, change in payee (include SSN), items billed (badges, etc.) that need to be either retained or credited;

2.      Three-Gaited Show Pleasure and Show Pleasure Driving affidavits – submit a list of at least six classes at three horse shows, either under saddle or in harness, since 8/28/2005;

3.      Five-Gaited Show Pleasure affidavits – submit a list of at least six classes at three shows since 8/28/2005;

4.      Country Pleasure and Country Pleasure Driving affidavits – submit a list of at least six classes at three shows, either under saddle or in harness, since 8/28/2005;

5.      Kentucky County Fair affidavitsSaddlebred Five-Gaited, Saddlebred Three-Gaited, Road Horse, Road Pony – submit a list of at least eight classes at five Kentucky County Fair member shows in the specific division since 8/28/2005;

6.      Kentucky County Fair affidavitsSaddlebred Fine Harness, Hackney Pony, Harness Pony – submit a list of at least five classes at five Kentucky County Fair member shows in the specific division since 8/28/2005.

 

  • Following are requirements for ASR Futurity entries: 

1.      ASR Futurity of Kentucky (Classes 1, 45, 94) – $50 entry fee and a signed Declaration of Intent to Show;

2.      ASR National Three-Year-Old Futurity (Classes 91, 101, 105, 125) – $50 entry fee and a signed Declaration of Intent to Show;

3.      ASR Amateur Futurity of Kentucky (Classes 153, 155, 157) – $25 entry fee and a signed Declaration of Intent to Show;

4.      ASR declaration and entry fee deadline – Sunday, August 20, 2006, at 2:00 p.m.

5.      Signed declarations and entry fees may be sent to ASR, 4089 Iron Works Parkway, Lexington, KY 40511 (please do not send to the Horse Show office).

6.      The ASR Futurity Secretary will be in the Horse Show office on Local Day, Sunday August 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and during Horse Show office hours, beginning on Friday, August 18, and until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20.

 

  • Owners of horses showing in the Kentucky County Fair classes must be members of the Kentucky Association of County Fairs and Horse Shows; to join, contact KACFHS, %Gib Gosser, P. O. Box 361, Somerset, KY 42902, or the $15 membership fee will be added to your account.

BEGINNING THURSDAY, AUGUST 17

 

  • Stalls cannot be bedded before Thursday, August 17.
  • Horses cannot be stabled before Thursday, August 17, at 5:00 p.m.
  • Health papers and coggins tests must be on the vehicle transporting the horses.
  • All horse vans or trailers should enter the fairgrounds via Gate 6 off Preston Street.
  • Upon arrival at the fairgrounds, you must stop at the stall office, where stall assignments will be given and paperwork for the horses will be checked.
  • Regular check-in will start on Friday, August 18, at 8:00 a.m.; all items noted above under Local Day will be required, unless previously submitted.

BEGINNING SUNDAY, AUGUST 20

 

  • No whips, noisemakers or attention-getting devices will be allowed until at least one hour after the Sunday evening session; a steward will be present to enforce this policy.
  • No whips, noisemakers or attention-getting devices will be allowed until at least one hour after each afternoon session throughout the week; a steward will be present to enforce this policy.
  • Work time in Freedom Hall will begin 20 minutes after the last class in the evening and last until 8:00 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and until 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday and Friday.
  • Freedom Hall will be closed to everyone after the Saturday afternoon session.
  • The covered outside arena will be available at all hours, unless notified otherwise by management.
  • Measurement of ponies will be Sunday, August 20, at 5:00 p.m., or Monday, August 21, at 9:00 a.m., at the entrance to the metal stadium.  If the pony cannot be measured at either of the above times, please schedule a time in the office or with the stewards.
  • Scratches for the morning session must be made before 8:00 p.m. the night before.
  • Scratches for the evening session must be made before 2:00 p.m. that afternoon.
  • A fee of $300 will be assessed for failure to scratch a horse prior to the class.
  • Declarations of intent to show in any of the seven World’s Grand Championships must be made in the Horse Show office before Saturday, August 26, at 4:30 p.m.; if not submitted, the entry will not be eligible to show in the championship.
  • After qualifying for a championship, declarations of intent to show should be submitted in the Horse Show office prior to the session during which the championship is held.
  • In order to remove a horse or equipment from the grounds, a release from Feeders Supply and the Horse Show office will be required; otherwise, you will not be allowed to leave the grounds.

Following is a list of classes, which includes the number of horses/riders currently entered in each class.  As we all know, these numbers will continue to change as the start of the show approaches.  Splits will not be determined until Sunday, August 20, after 2:00 p.m.  Thereafter, splits will be posted prior to each session.
