Judges Selected for Academy Finals

Posted May 22, 2002
The National Academy Championship Finals will be held November 2-3, 2002 in Decatur, Ala. This year, Lisa Richardson, Michael Craghead and Lynn Harvey McNamara will judge the competition.

There will be $12,500 awarded in U.S.savings bonds to the champions. Riders from ages five and up can compete for wins in saddle seat equitation, western, driving, and pleasure.

In addition, there will be a $1,000 scholarship awarded to the senior equitation champion. The scholarship will be funded by William Woods University. Joyce Webster said she is excited about the show as it is something that the horse industry really needed.

“It gives the riding students a goal, as well as creating pride and self esteem, and it produces a rider that is better equipped to step up to that first show horse,” Webster said.

Last year, 515 entries competed from nine different states. Webster said she expects even more riders to enter this year.

Webster can be reached at (256)773-2182 for additional information.
