John C. "Jay" Winstead Passes




John C. "Jay" Winstead, 79, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007 at his residence.


Jay worked for Bucyrus-Erie as a machinist for 35 years. He was an avid boater. Jay was a member of the Outboard Boating Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Jay enjoyed bowling and woodworking. He was on the visitation committee for St. Mary's Medical Center and attended Christian Fellowship Church where he was an usher.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Anna "Sue" Winstead of Evansville; daughter and son-in-law, Marianna and Richard Meachen of Kaneohe, Hawaii, Jolene and Steve Schwartz of Pendergrass, Ga., and Jana and Mike Roettger of Evansville; daughter, Wendy Winstead of Shelbyville, Ky.; son-in-law; Mike Luigs and his wife, Carla of Evansville; sisters, Evadean Mays of Robards, Ky., and Catherine Calhoun of Evansville; brother, Edward Winstead of Evansville; grandchildren, Gabriel Sammet, Jenni Luigs, Drew Luigs, Jessica Schwartz, Clark Schwartz, Lindsey Meals and her husband, Nick, and Zachary Roettger; and Jay's cat, Barney.

Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Christian Fellowship Church, 4100 Millersburg Road, Evansville, IN 47725, with Rev. Cliff Herring and Rev. Terry Gamblin officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. today, May 8, 2007, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., and from 9 a.m. to service time on Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Christian Fellowship Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christian Fellowship Church or Deaconess/Ohio Valley Hospice, 600 Mary St., Evansville, IN 47747.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Deaconess/Ohio Valley Hospice, especially Nancy Ruminer for all of their care.
