Joe P. Johnston Passes Away

Georgia horseman, Joe P. Johnston, died suddenly Thursday July 23, 2009 at his home in Statesboro, Georgia. Johnston had trained and shown many champion Roadster horses on the Southeastern and Kentucky show circuits. Horses that had shown under Johnston’s colors included, Paul H, Wild Cedar, Prime Time, Special Rose, and many more over a span of more than 40 years. Johnston had an eye for a good horse and the talent to develop top prospects into show ring contenders. More recently, Johnston had devoted much of his time to field trials and his champion bird dogs, including the 2000 National Champion "Laws High Noon." Johnston had retired from the insurance and real estate business, and is survived by his wife Margaret Ann, and three daughters, and seven grandchildren.
