Jean Smith Passes Away



Jean Smith passed away on Monday, May 19, 2008, at her home in Brampton, Ontario. Jean is survived by her son Brian, daughter-in-law Wendy, and two grandchildren. Jean was a Hackney Hall of Fame Inductee as well as a long-time Hackney and Shetland exhibitor.

Jean is resting at Ward Funeral Home on, 52 Main Street South, Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Visitation is Wednesday, May 21 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday, May 22 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m.

Jean was involved with Hackney ponies for over 70 years, driving such ponies as Key's Temptation, Glory Bound, and Country Road. Jean traveled to many country fairs as well as the Royal and other main events. She was responsible for giving many juniors their start in the show ring and the opportunity to show Hackney ponies and was an avid supporter of the Canadian Hackney Society and other breed exhibitors. Her granddaughter will continue to provide the Smith entry in future shows. She was inducted into the CHS Hall of Fame in the Exhibitor Division in March of 2007.
