Hackney Official Dies

Luciel M. Hanks, a longtime Hackney horse enthusiast, died June 17 at the Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill. She was 90.
She was secretary-treasurer of the Mid-West Hackney Horse Association from 1958-1992 and was the executive secretary-treasurer of the American Hackney Association from 1976-1992.
She was born in July 17, 1914, to James Ira and Inez R. Magee. She married Paul Hanks in October 1940 in St. Louis. He died in October 1982. She and her husband had lived and worked in Winchester, Jacksonville, Springfield and Taylorville before coming to Pittsfield. They had no children of their own but considered their nieces and nephews and great-nieces theirs. Survivors include one sister, Idella Simmons of Pittsfield, a brother, three nieces. The funeral was held June 26 at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Memorials are to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation or to the Pittsfield First Christian Church, of which she was a member.
